NEW COMMIT: Georgia Tech has picked up another verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Kiah Smith of Westerville, Ohio.

She will join Sabina Mrzyglod and Kendal Chunn as a member of the Yellow Jackets’ Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I feel so blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to further pursue my academic and athletic career at Georgia Institute of Technology! I’m incredibly grateful to my parents, siblings, coaches, teammates, and everyone else who has encouraged me these past few years. I couldn’t have gotten to where I am today without y’all. I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing team come fall 2022!! p.s. catch me in a “ramblin’ wreck”??

Smith, who trains year-round with New Albany Aquatic Club, earned a best times at the Oxford 18&U Winter Championships in December. She had a great showing at the Ohio Junior Olympics in July 2019, registering six new lifetime bests and posting five top-10 finishes, including a gold medal in the 100m fly.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.30
  • 100 free – 50.87
  • 200 free – 1:53.09
  • 100 fly – 55.34

Currently a junior at Westerville Central, Smith is a three-time individual Ohio State Championship finalist. She placed seventh in the 50 free and 14th in the 100 fly as a sophomore while taking ninth in the former event during her rookie campaign.

Even with 1.5 years to go before arriving in Atlanta in the fall of 2022, Smith will add valuable depth both individually and on relays. She would be their second-fastest 50 freestyler on their lineup, as well as rank No. 3 in the 100 free in 100 fly.
