Kentucky Wildcats Secure Class of 2025 Verbal from Juniors Qualifier Maddie Welborn
NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has scored a new verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Madeline “Maddie” Welborn of Katy, Texas.
She will join will join Megan Ciezczak, Annie Galvin, Emma Hermeston, Sydney Stricklin and Madeline Wenig as a member of the Wildcats’ class of 2025.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m so excited to officially announce my verbal commitment to the swim and study at the University of Kentucky! I would like to thank my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone else who helped make this possible. Can’t wait to be a wildcat!”
Primarily a freestyler and backstroker, Welborn does her club swimming with Katy Aquatics and owns the Junior National cut in the 100m free. She most recently won three events at the Gulf Short Course Championships in February after achieving three best times at Juniors West in December. Last summer, she finaled in five events at NCSAs.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.43
- 100 free – 50.82
- 50 back – 26.79
- 100 back – 56.73
A rising senior at Cinco Ranch High School, Welborn is a six-time Texas 6A State Championship finalist. She placed seventh in the 100 free and eighth in the 200 free as a junior while taking fifth and 12th, respectively, in those events during her freshman season.
