Kentucky Keeps Junior National Qualifier Sean Mackey of Cardinal Aquatics In State
NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has successfully kept local product Sean Mackey of Lexington in state for his college career after he verbally committed to the Wildcats for the fall of 2022.
He will join Drew Johnson, Kevin Glennon, Levi Sandidge, Ryan Merani, Brady McInerney, Logan Smith and Logan Ingerick as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2026.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m humbled and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the University of Kentucky. I want to thank God, my family, friends and coaches for making this possible. I also want to thank the entire staff at Kentucky for giving me this amazing opportunity. Go Cats!!!?⚪️?”
Mackey, a Junior National qualifier who does his club swimming with Cardinal Aquatics, most recently earned two best times at Huntsville Futures where he finaled in the 200m free after winning that event at the Kentucky Long Course Championships. He earned 100% best times at the Kentucky Short Course Championships in March after placing 19th in the 500 free at Cary Sectionals.
Mackey also posted six top-5 finishes at the 18&U Winter Championships – Barbourville back in December.
His best times include:
- 200 free – 1:40.06
- 500 free – 4:33.82
- 400 IM – 4:04.08
Mackey has seen some pretty big time drops over the last two years, knocking off five seconds in the 200 free, six in the 400 IM, and seven in the 500 free.
Under head coach Lars Jorgensen, the Wildcats finished seventh at the 2021 SEC Championships with 759 points, the highest score in program history.
