Kensey McMahon, Former Swimming World Intern, Set to Represent Team USA at World Championships
When the World Championships are held in Budapest next month, University of Alabama standout Kensey McMahon will be part of the Team USA roster. On the strength of her 15th-place finish on Saturday in the 10K race at the FINA Marathon Series in Portugal, McMahon nailed down a berth in the 25K open-water event at Worlds.
McMahon is a former Swimming World intern who wrote a number of excellent pieces while balancing her internship role with her training at Alabama. McMahon wrote one article about the hidden talents of Team USA members and another feature about the rise of former United States National Teamer Margo Geer as a rising star on the coaching scene.
McMahon’s qualification for the World Championships marks the second consecutive summer in which she enjoyed a breakthrough performance in the sport. Last summer, at the Olympic Trials in Omaha, McMahon raced in the final of the 1500 freestyle, the first time the event was part of the Olympic or Olympic Trials program.
Here is a look at a handful of McMahon’s articles from her days as an intern.
