NEW COMMIT: Cary, N.C. native and current high school junior Kennedy Grotjohn has verbally committed to the University of Cincinnati as a member of the class of 2024.

Grotjohn, who owns a pair of Winter Juniors standards, does her club swimming with TAC Titans. She recently competed at Greensboro Speedo Sectionals where she earned bronze in the 400 IM with four additional top-15 finishes and earned two best times at Juniors East in December. Last summer, she achieved six lifetime bests at NC LCM Seniors before going on to place 13th in the 200m IM at Cary Futures.

Also competing for Cary High School, Grotjohn is a three-time North Carolina 4A State Championship finalist. She finished seventh in the 200 IM as a junior after taking eighth in that event as well as 11th in the 500 free during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I chose the University of Cincinnati because it provides a great student-athlete program, as well as wonderful team culture and a great group of coaches I can’t wait to train with. Thanks to everyone who has helped me get this far. So excited to be a Bearcat in 2020!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 breast – 2:18.41
  • 200 IM – 2:03.57
  • 400 IM – 4:18.76
  • 200 back – 2:03.78
  • 500 free – 5:01.75

Grotjohn will add valuable IM and breaststroke depth when she suits up for the Bearcats at the start of the 2020-21 season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 400 IM as well as the B-final of the 200 IM and 200 breast at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships where Cincinnati finished second overall in the team standings.
