Katinka Hosszu, Marco Koch Sets Fastest January Swims Ever at FFN Golden Tour Stop
After scratching her other events throughout the day at the FFN Golden Tour stop, Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu posted the fastest January 200-meter IM ever.
Hosszu, who cruised to four wins yesterday against some inferior competition, made the clock her primary foe in the 200 IM with a 2:08.20.
That swim smashed the previous record for a women’s 200-meter IM in January previously held by Ye Shiwen with a 2:09.67 at the 2013 BHP Aquatic Super Series.
In fact, Hosszu’s time is among the top 15 ever with Hosszu now owning 7 of the top 15 times all time, including her shocking world record of 2:06.12 from last summer.
Hosszu did have to put down her Iron Lady crown for the day to put up such a time as she scratched the bulk of her other swims on day 2 after a full schedule yesterday.
Evelyn Verraszto placed second tonight in 2:17.50 with Cyrielle Duhamel taking third in 2:20.12.
Hosszu then doubled up with a 2:09.65 in the women’s 200-meter back. That’s well off Madison Wilson’s record for a 200 back in January. She posted a 2:07.18 at the Victorian Open this week, which broke Missy Franklin’s record of 2:07.31 from the 2013 Austin stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series.
Camille Gheorghiu took second in 2:13.57 with Pauline Mahieu placing third in 2:16.54.
Marco Koch, the top-ranked swimmer in the world last year with a 2:07.76 at Worlds, captured the men’s 200-meter breast in 2:09.37.
That’s also the top 200 breast time ever in January. The previous record stood at 2:09.78 by Laurent Carnol at the 2012 Luxembourg Euro Meet.
William Debourges placed second in 2:15.24 with Quentin Coton earning third in 2:17.80.
Camille Lacourt, who ranked third in the world last year with a 52.48 at Worlds, clipped Ben Stasiulis in the men’s 100-meter back with a 54.82. Stasiulis took second in 54.92. Christou Apostolos snared third in 55.24.
Jeremy Stravius topped the men’s 200-meter free in a time of 1:47.68 with Andreas Vazaios snared second in 1:49.73. Lorys Bourelly picked up third in 1:50.10.
Adeline Martin touched out Fanny Deberghes, 1:10.91 to 1:10.92, in the women’s 100-meter breast. Adeline Williams claimed third in 1:11.17.
Jordan Coelho captured the men’s 200-meter fly title in 1:57.41, while David Verraszto took second in 2:01.88. Paul Lemaire wound up third in 2:03.38.
Coralie Balmy turned in a 4:05.45 to win the women’s 400-meter free. Charlotte Bonnet took second in 4:15.88 with Lara Grangeon earning third in 4:15.97.
Florent Manaudou won the men’s 50-meter free in 21.72 with Fred Bousquet taking second in 22.36. Stravius wound up third in 22.60.
Katerine Savard won the women’s 100-meter fly in 58.48 with Anna Ntountounaki placing second in 58.89. Marie Wattel put up a third-placed time of 59.49.
Charlotte Bonnet won the women’s 100-meter free in 54.62. Savard took second in 55.32 with Anna Santamans placing third in 55.77.
