Katie Ledecky Leads Four 13-Timers on 2024-25 U.S. National Team

Katie Ledecky is one of four swimmers named to their 13th national team on Monday by USA Swimming. On the women’s side, she’s joined by Ashley (Twichell) Wall, the duo passing Allison Schmitt and Olivia Smoliga for the most honors ever.

Chase Kalisz and Ryan Murphy are on the national team for the 13th time each on the men’s side.

The 2024-25 U.S. National Team, presented by Toyota, comprises 105 athletes from 33 states and 24 universities. It is based on results from Jan. 1, 2024 through Aug. 24, a span encompassing U.S. Olympic Team Trials and the Paris Olympics.

“As we start the LA 2028 quad, we are thrilled to announce a roster of athletes who genuinely embody the best aspects of our sport,” USA Swimming Interim Chief Executive Officer Shana Ferguson said in a press release. “This team features a strong mix of veteran presence and emerging talent certain to showcase their USA Swimming club teams and universities at the highest levels of international competition.”

Twenty-one athletes are making their national team debuts, including male Olympians Luke Whitlock and Keaton Jones and female Junior Pan Pacific Championships standouts Audrey Derivaux and Rylee Erisman.

Three swimmers are on the team in five events, all on the female side: Kate Douglass, Katie Grimes (including the 10K) and Regan Smith (with the 200 IM). Ledecky joins Claire Weinstein (also with the 10K) and Torri Huske with four events. Bobby Finke and David Johnston – both in the 400/800/1,500 free and 400 individual medley – are the only men two make it in four events each. Seven men – including Murphy, Caeleb Dressel and Chris Giuliano – are on there for three events.

Texas wins for the most represented state with nine honorees, while the University of Texas has the most affiliated swimmers among colleges with 14.
