The FGCU swimming & diving program held its annual Green-Blue Scrimmage at the FGCU Aquatics Center on Saturday morning, with the Green team defeating the Blue team by a final score of 157-129.

“We had a competitive scrimmage today and the girls swam well,” said FGCU head coach Neal Studd. “It was exciting to see so many of our alumnae having a good time and being competitive as well. It was just a great day for the FGCU swim and dive family.”

The Green team was victorious in 10 of the 17 events, including both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, in which they outscored the Blue team 22-8. Katie Latham (Deal, Kent, United Kingdom/Sir Roger Manwood’s School) and Sandra Wilk (Lexington, Ky./Paul Lawrence Dunbar HS) each earned a pair of wins, with Latham touching the pads first in both the 50 and 100 freestyle and Wilk finishing first in the 100 and 200 backstroke.

For the Blue team, Yee Wong (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Girl’s School) recorded a pair of season bests as she won both the 100 and 200 butterfly in times of 56.53 and 2:02.73, respectively. Additionally, Katie Armitage (Bushey, United Kingdom/Queens School Bushey) continued to swim well to start the season as she won both the 100 and 200 backstroke.

In the diving portion of today’s meet, Mikaila Buening (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community HS) set personal records in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 276.55 and 303.73, respectively. Buening edged Ashley Wright (Port Saint Lucie, Fla./Indian River/Lincoln Park Academy) in the 3-meter event, with Wright taking the top spot off of the 1-meter boards.

Also during today’s scrimmage, former Eagle great and two-time College Swimming Coaches Association of America All-American Emma Svensson was honored by Studd and FGCU Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh with the 2015 FGCU Most Outstanding Athlete Award.

Following today’s events, the Green and Blue will gear up for the FGCU Classic as they host Rutgers, Ohio State, South Carolina, FAU, Grand Canyon and Buffalo beginning Friday, Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the FGCU Aquatics Center.
