Katie Grimes Leads USA Swimming Roster for World Aquatics Open Water Championship

USA Swimming, the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States, today announced the five athletes set to compete at the World Aquatics Open Water Championships – Doha 2024. The competition is scheduled for February 3-8, at Old Doha Port.

Katie Grimes (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada) highlights the team of three men and two women. Grimes was the first American athlete across all sports to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics after a bronze medal finish in the 10K at the 2023 World Aquatics Open Water Championships. Athletes:

Michael Brinegar (Bloomington, Ind./CA – The Swim Team) – 10K

Josh Brown (Winter Park, Fla./Sandpipers of Nevada) – 5K

Mariah Denigan (Walton, Ky./Indiana University) – 10K, 5K

Katie Grimes (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada) – 10K, 5K

Ivan Puskovitch(West Chester, Pa./TSM Aquatics) – 10K, 5K

These athletes join those named to the World Aquatics Championships pool roster announced in November.

Corey Chitwood, Associate Head Coach of the men’s and women’s Indiana University swim teams, will serve as Head Coach. This will be Chitwood’s second head coaching appointment after leading the Open Water team at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. He was also an assistant coach at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, and has coached the Open Water teams at numerous Open Water World Cup competitions.

Mohammad Khadembashi will serve as the assistant coach. Khadembashi is the Executive Director and Head Coach at TSM Aquatics and has been with the program since 2015. Khadembashi also joined the coaching staff for the 2019 FINA (now World Aquatics) World Cup in Hungary.

Schedule of events:

February 3 – women’s 10K

February 4 – men’s 10K

February 7 – women’s 5K, men’s 5K

February 8 – mixed 4x1500m relay

All athletes named to both the open water and pool teams are eligible to swim in the relay.
