BLOOMINGTON, Illinois, October 1. RISING breaststroker Katelyn Sauder made a verbal commitment this week to attend the University of Minnesota next fall to help keep the Golden Gophers’ strong breaststroke tradition alive.
Sauder will have some work to do in order to reach the heights of NCAA champions Jillian Tyler and Haley Spencer, but she is on the right path. She was second at last summer’s sectional championships in Indianapolis in the long course 100 breast with a 1:12.21. At the same meet, she posted a 2:36.36 in the 200 breast while representing the WAVES Bloomington YMCA Swim Team.
In short course yards, her best time in the 100 breast stands at 1:03.61, with a 2:24.32 in the 200 breast to her credit.
“The teammates seem to be the kind of people I can have fun with, and who at the same time are serious about swimming,” Sauder told Swimming World. “The coaching staff impressed me with their honesty and genuineness.”
