Kate Moore Joins Coaching Staff at Duke University

Kate Moore has been hired to the staff staff at Duke University as an assistant coach, the school announced on Tuesday.

Moore joins the staff of first-year coach Brian Barnes, the final hire for the 2022-23 season.

“I am so excited to be coming back to North Carolina to join such a high energy staff at Duke and I’m thankful to Brian for the amazing opportunity,” Moore said in a team statement. “With Duke offering a one-of-a-kind student-athlete experience and the talent already present on the team, I know the ceiling is high and I can’t wait to see what this group can do.”

Moore has spent the last three years at Washington State, where she was hired as an assistant coach and elevated to the role of associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. The Cougars have three swimmers at the World University Games (two on Team USA), and in 2023 sent the program’s first ever freshmen to the NCAA Championships.

Moore’s time in Pullman included the first ever Pac-12 champion for the Cougars and their highest point total in a Pac-12 Championship meet.

“I am excited to announce the completion of my staff search with the addition of Kate Moore,” Barnes said. “Kate is coming to Duke with a terrific background; years of experience and endorsements and high accolades from many of her peers. It was quite clear early in this process that Kate was very enthusiastic about coaching at Duke. We have an amazing coaching staff in place and this 2023-24 season is going to be fun and challenging!”

Moore was a standout at East Carolina, the program’s 2007 Most Outstanding Swimmer and a team captain. Her coaching career began with 13 seasons on staff for the Pirates, from a volunteer assistant to associate head coach. She specialized in mid-distance stroke and IM training.

Moore graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physical education from ECU and gained a master’s in school health education.
