According to a tweet from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas swimming and diving team, UNLV Pro and Volunteer Coach Katarzyna (Kasia) Wilk has become the first Polish swimmer to break 25 seconds in the 50 free, setting a new national record at the 2019 Polish National Championships.

Wilk touched the wall in prelims with a 24.73, smashing through the 25-second barrier and breaking the previous national record that stood at 25.01 Aleksandra Urbanczyk since 2013. Wilk would go on to win the national title in finals in 24.94. Wilk’s previous best, according to collegeswimming.com, was a 25.10 from the recent TYR Pro Swim Series in Richmond.
Wilk has competed in three Olympic Games for Poland (2008, 2012, 2016) and was an All-American sprint freestyler for USC from 2012-2016.
Other notable swims from the first day of the 2019 Polish Nationals included Pawel Juraszek winning the 50 free (21.71) just a few tenths off his own national record, and Wojciech Wojdak slipping under 15:00 to win the 1500 free in 14:59.99.
