Kasey Carlson, David Nolan Lead Way in CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmers of the Week Awards
CARTHAGE, Wisconsin, January 15. THE CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmers of the Week are out, and it took some gutsy performances right out of training camp to claim top honors this week.

Division I Women
Kasey Carlson (Walnut Creek, Calif) is the Philip Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Women’s Swimmer of the Week. In dual meet action against Wisconsin, USC Trojan Senior Carlson won her first individual victory of the day in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:02.69. She then won the 100y free (49.40, NCAA `B’ qualifying time), while finishing second in the 50 free (22.85, NCAA `B’ qualifying time). The Women of Troy started off the competition with a victory in the 200 medley relay, as the foursome of Kendyl Stewart, Kasey Carlson, Jasmine Tosky and Kasia Wilk finished with a time of 1:41.08 (27.63 breastroke split for Carlson). Splitting first place finishes in the sprint events with Wisconsin standout Ivy Martin was a highlight of the Trojan’s performance.
Division I Men
Stanford Junior David Nolan (Hershey, PA), is the Philip Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Men’s Division I Swimmer of the Week for his performances against Pacific (CA). Nolan had a hand in Stanford’s 200 medley relay (1:30.29, 22.29 backstroke split) victory and went on to win the 200 free (1:37.00) and 50 free (20.69). Nolan also split an impressive 19.78 in the winning 200 free relay (1:23.33).”I was really impressed with David’s first three events,” coach Knapp said. “He had a really tough triple in the first half of the meet.”
Division II Women
Southern Connecticut State University swimmer Anna Pleban (Seymour, Conn.) earned the Northeast-10 Conference and Philip Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Women’s Division II Swimmer of the week for her performances this past weekend. Pleban was victorious in two individual events in the dual meet against Marist on Jan. 11. The senior touched the wall first and posted the top NE-10 time this season in the 200 butterfly (2:12.15) and won the 500 freestyle (5:16.95). Pleban was part of the team that completed the 200 freestyle relay first in 1:41.53. The following afternoon at Connecticut College, the Owls’ co-captain recorded three top-three finishes. Pleban touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly (59.64), good for the fourth best time in that event in the NE-10. The senior was second in the 50 yard freestyle (25.08) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.57). The 200 freestyle time was also tops in the NE-10 in 2013-14.
Division II Men
Southern Connecticut State University swimmer Raymond Cswerko (Torrington, Conn.), is the Northeast-10 Conference and Philip Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Men’s Division II Swimmer of the Week. Cswerko won three events for Southern Connecticut versus Marist on Jan. 11, the first time in the history of the program that Southern Connecticut has defeated Marist. The junior took the 100 yard butterfly with a finishing time of 51.15. Cswerko touched the wall first in both the 200 yard breaststroke (2:07.65) and 200 yard freestyle, an event where the Owls went 1-4 (1:44.48). The junior was also part of the winning 200 yard freestyle relay team. At Connecticut College the following afternoon, Cswerko touched the wall first in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 59.81 and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:08.58). The junior also placed fourth in the 200 yard freestyle (1:47.89).
Division III Women
Denison Women posted a victory over Ohio University this past weekend, and leading the way for Denison was freshman Carolyn Kane (Excelsior, Minn) who won three events and finished second in another, earning her the Philip Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Women’s Division III Swimmer of the Week. In the 50 freestyle, Kane posted a time of 23.65 for the win. She also touched first in the 100 freestyle thanks to her time of 52.22 seconds. In the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay, Kane split a 52.46 to help Denison post the victory.
Division III Men
Winning the Philip Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Men’s Division III Swimmer of the Week is Coastguard Academy Junior Christian Brindamour (Manchester, Ct). MIT won 14 of the 16 events with only Brindamour posting Bears’ wins in the 50 freestyle (20.52) and the 100 freestyle (48.21). Christian also split a 48.89 anchoring the 400 medley relay, and a 21.45 anchoring the 200 free relay.
