Justin Kassab Hired by Salem University to Relaunch Swimming Programs

Salem University last week hired Justin Kassab to return to the school as it relaunches its men’s and women’s swimming programs.

The school announced in December that it would reinstate men’s and women’s swimming, which was on a one-year hiatus in 2023-24. Kassab used to lead the Tigers’ women’s water polo program from 2017-22, leading Salem to two NCAA tournament berths.

Kassab assisted with the swim programs at Salem while overseeing water polo. He has spent the last two years as an assistant coach to the swim team at Division I Mount Saint Mary’s, and he has experience in the club realm.

“I wouldn’t have this opportunity if Coach (Neil) Yost and the staff and swimmers at Mount Saint Mary’s hadn’t given me a chance to get back into NCAA swim coaching and rekindle my love for my first sport,” Kassab said in a university statement. “Having worked under a number of great coaches in the 15 years of aquatic coaching, I’m excited that Salem University will be giving me the means to showcase that experience in a head coaching role. I look forward to building a competitive program in a strong region.”

Salem, located in West Virginia, competes in Division II. The revitalization of swimming in December included launching a wrestling program for the Tigers.

“We are really excited to bring Justin back to Salem in this new role,” athletic director Alex Joseph said. “We know Justin can build a successful program here at Salem, and our swimming programs definitely need the kind of leadership we have known Justin to bring to his teams.”
