Juniors Finalist Scott Sobolewski of Cincinnati Marlins Announces Verbal to USC Trojans
NEW COMMIT: The University of Southern California has earned a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from talented breaststroker Scott Sobolewski of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Sobolewski, who swims year-round with the Cincinnati Marlins, owns the U.S. Open standard in both breaststroke events with a pair of additional Summer Juniors cuts. He recently won the 100/200 breast combo at TYR ISCA Junior Nationals after finishing fourth and sixth, respectively, in those events at Juniors East in December. This past summer, he recorded five best times at Spire Speedo Sectionals where he earned gold in the 100m breast.
Also competing for Saint Xavier High School, Sobolewski is a four-time Ohio State Championship finalist and has earned NISCA All-American honors. He was the 100 breast runner-up and took ninth in the 200 IM as a junior after finishing second and eighth in those respective events during his sophomore season.
He told Swimming World:
“I am honored to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Southern California to continue my swimming and academic career. I thank my family, friends, and coaches who have helped me along the way, and I can’t wait to be part of the Trojan family. Fight On!!”
His best times include:
- 50 breast – 26.04
- 100 breast – 54.25
- 200 breast – 1:59.30
- 200 IM – 1:50.27
- 50 free – 21.55
Sobolewski has consistently made improvements each season and will add valuable breaststroke depth when he suits up for the Trojans as a member of the class of 2024. He would’ve scored in the C-final of both breaststroke events at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships where USC finished fifth overall in the team standings.
