Juniors Finalist Bryce Ortanes Verbally Commits to Notre Dame Fighting Irish
NEW COMMIT: The University of Notre Dame has scored a new verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from backstroker Bryce Ortanes of Englewood, Colo.
He will join Parker Macy, Andrew Guziec, Nick Tommasone, Chris Guiliano, Max Myers and Owen Grimaldi with the Fighting Irish as a member of the class of 2025.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am beyond humbled to announce my verbal commitment to swim as a fighting Irish at the University of Notre Dame. I’d like to thank my parents, my coaches, and the amazing support from everyone around me. Go Irish!☘️☘️”
Ortanes, who owns three Junior National standards, does his club swimming with Aquawolves Swim Team and placed 12th in the 50 free and 13th in the 100 back at Juniors West in December. Last summer, he recorded three top-8 finishes at Colorado LCM Seniors before going on to finish fourth in both the 50m free and 100m back at Western Zones.
His best times include:
- 50 back – 22.51
- 100 back – 48.76
- 200 back – 1:47.96
- 50 free – 20.38
Also competing for Cherry Creek High School, Ortanes is a three-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed fourth in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 back as a sophomore while taking 11th in that latter event during his freshman season.
