NEW COMMIT: Harvard University has received a new verbal commitment* for the 2024-25 season and beyond from Joshua Chen of Ames, Iowa.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process to continue my academic and swimming journey at Harvard University. I would like to thank Coach Kevin and Coach Daniel for giving me this opportunity and also all of my family, coaches, friends, and everyone who has supported me through this whole process. Go Crimson!”

Chen does his club swimming with Ames Cyclone Aquatic Club and most recently placed 12th in both the 100 and 200 breast at Juniors West last week. This past summer, he was the runner-up in both the 100m and 200m breast at Junior Nationals.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 54.17
  • 200 breast – 1:57.23
  • 200 IM – 1:52.81
  • 100 fly – 53.82

Currently a junior at Ames Senior High School, Chen placed second in the 100 breast and third in the 200 IM at the 2022 Iowa State Championships. He finished third and 16th, respectively, in those events as a freshman.

He’s a great pickup for the Crimson, as his top times would already score in the B-final at the Ivy League Championships.

*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER:* A “verbal commitment” does not guarantee admission. An Ivy League coach cannot guarantee admission but can only commit support in the admissions process.
