Junior National Qualifier Kate Bailey Sends 2022 Verbal to Pitt Panthers
NEW COMMIT: The University of Pittsburgh has received their third early verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Kate Bailey of Arlington, Va.
She will join Angelina Messina and Claire Dafoe as a member of the Panthers’ Class of 2026.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Pittsburgh!! I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for supporting me. I can’t wait to be part of a great program! GO PANTHERS!!”
A talented sprint freestyler and butterfly, Bailey trains with Arlington Aquatic Club and most recently competed at the 18&U Winter Championships – Potomac Valley where she earned three best times. In Summer 2019, she finaled in the 50m fly at the NCSA Championships.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.53
- 100 free – 51.31
- 200 free – 1:51.06
- 100 fly – 55.03
- 200 fly – 2:00.78
- 200 IM – 2:06.34
Currently a junior at the Bishop O’Connell School, Bailey is already a four-time individual Virginia Independent Schools State Championship finalist. She collected gold in the 100 fly and bronze in the 100 free as a sophomore while taking first in the former event as well as eighth in the 200 IM during her freshman season.
She is also a four-time finalist at the Washington Metro Prep League Championship, placing second in the 100 free and third in the 200 IM in 2020.
Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Panthers in the fall of 2022, Bailey will add valuable depth individually and on relays. She would’ve been their third-fastest in both fly events last season and would’ve scored in the C-final of that event at the 2020 ACC Championships.
