Junior National Qualifier Haily Payne Announces Verbal Commitment to University of Utah
NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Haily Payne of Wenatchee, Wash. has given her verbal pledge to the University of Utah beginning in the fall of 2021.
She will join Maile Andresen, Norah Hay, and Milla Ruthven as a member of the Utes’ class of 2025.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“So proud and excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Utah! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches who supported me all along the way! Go Utes!!!”
A talented butterflyer, Payne trains year-round with Velocity Swimming and most recently won the 50 fly and 100 fly at the SC Junior Olympics in March and raced three events at Juniors West in 2018. Last summer, she earned two best times at Mount Hood Sectionals before going on to final in the 100m fly at Western Zones.
Her best times include:
- 100 fly – 55.77
- 200 fly – 2:02.37
- 200 IM – 2:07.41
Also competing for Wenatchee High School, Payne is a five-time Washington 4A State Championship finalist. She placed ninth in the 100 fly as a junior while taking fourth in that event as well as ninth in the 100 back during her sophomore season. She also raced to fifth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 200 IM in her rookie campaign.
