Junior National Finalist Rosie Murphy Selects In-State UCLA for 2022-23
NEW COMMIT: UCLA has received their fourth early verbal commitment for the fall of 2022 from in-state standout Rosie Murphy of Granite Bay, Calif.
She will join Ava Lachey, Fay Lustria and Courtney Seljeseth as a member of the Bruins’ Class of 2026.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“cant wait to rep UCLA in the pool in two years @uclaswimanddive i’m so excited to be a bruin! thank you to my coaches for the endless support!”
A talented IMer and backstroker, Murphy does her club swimming with Sierra Marlins Swim Team and finished eighth in the 100 back, ninth in the 400 IM, 11th in the 200 IM, and 17th in the 200 back at Juniors West last December. In Summer 2019, she placed 10th in the 200m back at Junior Nationals to qualify for Olympic Trials.
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 25.90
- 100 back – 54.33
- 200 back – 1:56.12
- 100 fly – 56.24
- 200 IM – 2:01.13
- 400 IM – 4:15.99
Currently a junior at Granite Bay High School, Murphy finished seventh in the 100 back and 16th in the 200 IM at the CIF State Championships as a freshman. She earned silver and bronze, respectively, in those events at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championships in 2019 as well.
Murphy will add valuable backstroke and IM depth when she arrives on campus at the start of the 2022-23 season. She would’ve been UCLA’s second-fastest 200 backstroker and ranked No. 3 on their lineup in the 200 IM.
