Junior National Finalist Hank Rivers Verbally Commits to Cal for 2022-23

NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Hank Rivers of Long Beach, Calif. has decided to remain in-state for his college career after verbally committing to the University of California, Berkeley, for the fall of 2022.

He will join Phoenix, Calif. native Zachary Tan as a member of the Golden Bears’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Cal Berkeley! Thank you to everyone who has supported me to get to where I am today. Go bears! ??”

Rivers, who trains year-round with Golden West Swim Club, is a talented breaststroker and sprint freestyler who most recently earned a best time at the TYR 18&U Cup after competing at the Toyota U.S. Open. He finished sixth in the 100 breast at Juniors West in 2019 before going on to take eighth in that event at Carlsbad Sectionals.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 53.91
  • 200 breast – 2:05.68
  • 50 free – 21.03
  • 100 free – 45.05

Currently a junior at Woodrow Wilson High School, Rivers won the 100 breast and took sixth in the 50 free at the CIF Southern DII Section Championships during his freshman season.

Under head coach Dave Durden, Cal earned their fourth-straight Pac-12 Championship title and were the national runners-up at NCAAs in 2021.
