Junior National Finalist Daniel Matheson De-Commits from Northwestern, Selects USC for 2021
NEW COMMIT: After originally sending his verbal pledge to Northwestern, Peoria, Az. native Daniel Matheson has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Southern California for the fall of 2021.
He will join Vincent Cheng, Mason Morris, Chris O’Grady, and Kevin Sichak in Los Angeles as a member of the Trojans’ Class of 2025.
Daniel Matheson told Swimming World:
“After a lot of thought, I have decided to pursue my academic and athletic career at the University Of Southern California! Thank you to my friends, family, and my coaches but a shout out to Bob Platt, Kevin Zacher, and Ryan Kent! #fighton #swimforryan”
His best times include:
- 200 free – 1:38.64
- 500 free – 4:23.16
- 1000 free – 9:15.90
- 1650 free – 15:21.53
- 200 IM – 1:49.69
- 400 IM – 3:54.19
- 200 fly – 1:45.94
Also competing for Sunrise Mountain High School, Daniel Matheson is a four-time Arizona DII State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished third in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 IM as a junior while taking seventh and sixth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
