Junior National Finalist Caroline Pennington Pledges Verbal to Virginia for 2021
NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia has picked up an early verbal commitment for the class of 2025 from Caroline Pennington of Greenwich, Conn. who will join Reilly Tiltmann in Charlottesville at the start of the 2021-22 season.
Primarily a distance freestyler, Pennington swims year-round with Badger Swim Club, Inc. and owns a pair of U.S Open standards. She capped off her extremely successful long course season by placing fifth in the 1500m free and ninth in the 800m free at Junior Nationals this past summer. Last winter, she was the 1000 free runner-up at New England Seniors and earned gold in the mile at TYR Junior Nationals. She placed ninth at the Junior Open Water National Championships and recently attended the National Select Camp. A current junior at Greenwich Academy, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 500 free as a freshman at the New England Prep School DI Championships.
In SCY, her best times include:
- 500 free – 4:58.11
- 1000 free – 10:12.58
- 1650 free – 16:58.55
In LCM, her best times include:
- 400m free – 4:23.01
- 800m free – 8:52.26
- 1500m free – 16:56.08
Pennington has seen some pretty consistent time drops over the past two years, shaving off three seconds in the 500 free, 36 seconds in the 1000 free, nearly a minute in the mile, and even bigger improvements in long course, including 32 seconds in the 1500m free.. With nearly two full years left of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Hoos, she’ll surely continue to improve and will become a valuable addition to their distance freestyle group.
