Julia Cook Jumpstarts Texas Longhorns’ Class of 2022 with Verbal Commit
The Texas Longhorn women already have a commitment to the Class of 2022. High school junior Julia Cook has verbally committed to swim for Carol Capitani and her team.
Cook is an in-state talent, training with Aggie Swim Club in College Station. She attends Bryan High School where she has been a three time 50 freestyle high school state champion. She is the 5A state record holder in the 50 and 100 freestyle.
Her top times are:
- 50 Free 22.32
- 100 Free 48.44
- 200 Free 1:45.35
- 50 Back 24.33
- 100 Back 52.37
Cook should make an immediate impact for the Longhorns. While her best 50 time would have created a three way tie for 27th at NCAAs, it also would have but her in contention for a 200 freestyle relay spot. Senior Tasija Karosas recorded the team’s slowest split, a 23.32.
Cook would also improve the team’s ninth place 400 freestyle relay. Her best time would have been a touch faster than senior Madisyn Cox‘s 48.91. Individually, Cox is four tenths outside of scoring in the 100 freestyle.
She has immediate scoring capability on the Conference level. The Longhorn women snagged the top four spots in the 50 at Big 12s. Cook would have touched second. She also would have been runner up in the 100.
