Josh Gammon Earns Second Butterfly Win on Day Two in Rotterdam

British butterflyer Josh Gammon added to his previous win in the 200 butterfly with a win over 100 meters on the second day of racing at the Rotterdam Qualification Meet. Gammon was one of six British winners Friday evening.

In a British sweep of the men’s 100 fly, Gammon blasted the second half to pull away from Jacob Peters. Gammon blocked 52.80, with Peters (53.93) holding off Dean Fearn for (54.05) for the runnerup spot. Meanwhile, Germany’s Sandra Maria Balto held off British swimmers Skye Carter and Theodora Taylor in the women’s 100 fly, with Balto going 1:00.25 ahead of Carter’s 1:00.56 and Taylor’s 1:00.94.

In the women’s 400 IM, Belgium’s Sarah Dumont pulled narrowly ahead of Hungary’s Eszter Szabo Felthothy on the breaststroke leg and ended up winning by more than a half-second, 4:46.20 to 4:46.89, with Great Britain’s Amalie Smith third in 4:48.09. The men’s 400 IM went to Spain’s Cristobal Vargas Trujillo in 4:22.58, ahead of Britain’s Edward Marcal Whittles (4:24.15) and the Netherlands’ Yanieck Weijland (4:25.58).

Great Britain’s Blythe Kinsman finished less than a tenth ahead of Jinth Engelse in the women’s 50 backstroke, 28.59 to 28.68, with Spain’s Estella Tonrath Nollgen third (29.31). The men’s event went to Scott Gibson in 25.52, with a tie for second in 25.65 between two of his British countrymen, Cameron Brooker and Jake Skerry.

Britain’s Kara Halon clocked 2:27.16 for a dominant win in the women’s 200 breaststroke, with the Netherlands’ Djanilla Brink holding off Britain’s Charlotte Bianchi for second, 2:32.65 to 2:32.82. Max Morgan finished one second clear of the field in the men’s 200 breast, clocking 2:12.69, while his fellow Briton Filip Nowacki edged Germany’s Christoffer Haarsaker for second, 2:13.62 to 2:13.75.

Great Britain’s Amelie Blocksidge finished more than 21 seconds ahead of the field in the women’s 1500 freestyle, her time of 16:25.31 beating out Britain’s Leah Crisp (16:46.51) and Spain’s Clara Martinez De Salinas Pena (16:48.49).

German swimmers went 1-3 in the men’s 1500, with Moritz Erkmann winning a race against Vargas Trujillo, who swam this less than two hours after winning the 400 IM. Erkmann clocked 15:24.36, less than two tenths clear of Vargas Trujillo’s 15:24.53. German Johannes Liebmann took third in 15:31.59.

In para events, the Netherlands’ Lisa Kruger (S10) won the women’s 50 back in 32.71, with fellow Dutch swimmer Thomas van Wanrooij (S13) topping the men’s in 28.24. The 100 fly winners were the Netherlands’ Liesette Bruinsma (S11, 1:20.65) and the Netherlands’ Rogier Dorsman (S11, 1:05.82).
