Joeri Verlinden Delays Return to Swimming After Cardiac Arrhythmia
AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, January 10. THE Netherlands’ Swimming Federation (KNZB) announced today that Joeri Verlinden’s return to the sport will be delayed after doctors found a cardiac arrhythmia during a regular check up this week.
Verlinden, who had planned on returning to training and participating with the National Team at a camp in Thailand in a few weeks, is now back on the shelf.
“This is an incredible disappointment after a very disappointing 2013 of injuries,” Verlinden told Holland Swimming. “Recent weeks looked tremendously good to make my comeback next month in swimming. In the coming months I will test and undergo tests to see how it will run further.”
KNZB plans on supporting Verlinden throughout his recovery, hoping to get the butterfly specialist back in the water when possible.
“It is a terrible setback for Joeri, who has been amazing working on his comeback. We will give him all the support needed,” said technical director Joop Alberda.
