Brazil’s Joao Gomes clipped Josh Prenot for the men’s 100-meter breaststroke title at the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series Orlando.

Gomes touched out Prenot at the all, 1:00.64 to 1:00.66, in what proved to be an exciting finish throughout the finale.

Gomes had been faster this morning with a 1:00.55, but settled for the victory tonight.  Prenot moved to 13th in the world with his swim.

Brazil’s Felipe Lima wound up third in 1:00.73, while Missouri’s Sam Tierney was also in the mix with a fourth-place 1:00.96.

Georgia’s Nic Fink (1:01.61), California’s Chuck Katis (1:02.74) and Indie’s Michael Andrew (1:03.70) were also in the championship heat.

Badger’s Cody Miller drew a disqualification. He initially had won the race in a seventh-ranked 59.94, but was disqualified for too many dolphin kicks.

California’s Sean Mahoney won the B final in 1:02.91 with RSA’s Jared Pike second in 1:02.95.

Interesting that Prenit would opt out of swimming in- going PAC- 12s to swim here…unless he is gonna fly back to Seattle tonite and swim 100 breast conference meet Friday.

Going east to west he gains three hours but I doubt there’s a non- stop flight between the cities and if did that he’d be a tired camper Friday!
