Jewish Swimmers Sought for the Maccabi Australia International Games
PHILADELPHIA, November 20. MACCABI USA/Sports for Israel, located in Philadelphia, is sponsoring U.S. participation in the Maccabi Australia International Games in July 2006. Applications for the U.S. team are now available at www.maccabiusa.com. MAIGs are a competition for Jewish athletes that will be held in Sydney, Australia, according to Robert Spivak, chairman of Team U.S.A.
"The inaugural Maccabi Australia International Games are going to be a spectacular event. Members of the U.S. Team and other Jewish athletes from 18 countries will have the opportunity to travel Down Under to Sydney and compete in their sport in state of the art venues designed for Olympic competition," said Spivak.
According to Spivak, the United States will send a contingent of 150 athletes (in all sports) to the Games, which will feature U.S. participation in two age categories, open and Masters.
We would like to have all athlete applications for Swimming no later than January 15, 2006. The team will be selected in early February 2006. All Swimming applicants need to submit best times in either/both short course or long course. Team will be selected based upon best times/best events as well as consideration for relay participation.
