After this morning’s semifinal round, American Jessica Parratto is standing in second place headed into the final. Although scores do not carry over, after finishing third in prelims she has shown consistency worthy of medaling. Parratto is trailing China’s Si Yajie and isn five points ahead of Si’s teammate Ren Qian.
American Katrina Young finished in thirteenth place. She will not be continuing onto the finals this evening. Young’s second dive was a back there and a half that was only awarded 21.45 points. She finished just five points short of the last qualifying spot.
Australia’s Melissa Wu finished semifinals in fourth place. She has a silver medal from Beijing in synchronized platform, and finished sixth in individual ten-meter at the same games. Wu is a seasoned competitor, and is within striking distance of the podium. She is currently 16 points behind the leaders.
All twelve finalists will start the meet with zero points, so anything could happen. Still, the leaders have been consistent so far. Hopefully Parratto can remain solid and bring another diving medal back to the U.S.A.
The finals are scheduled for tonight at 3pm.
