Japan And Russia Grab Five Golds At FINA Artistic Swimming World Series In Tokyo

The fourth leg of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series 2019 came to an end tonight in Tokyo, Japan, as Russian stars Svetlana Kolesnichenko and Svetlana Romashina, both Olympic and World champions, displayed their best form over the three-day competition from April 27-29.

The Russian pair topped both the duet events, earning 95.7893 for the technical routine and 96.8333 for the free routine.

Kolesnichenko did not stop there and also won the solo technical with 94.0252, defeating national hero Yukiko Inui who grabbed the silver at stake with 92.0159. Inui however impressed the most in the solo free with 93.4667, in front of Italy Linda Cerruti who secured silver with 91.1000.

Cerruti also pocketed the bronze medal on offer in the duet technical with partner Costanza Ferro 89.5706.

Canada’s Jacqueline Simoneau clinched the solo free bronze with 90.2000, while Spain’s Ona Carbonell closed the solo technical event with 90.5317 points.

Team Japan claimed victory in every single team event: Team technical 91.3871, Team free 93.0333, Free combination 92.3000 and Highlight routine 92.000.

Russia’s Aleksandr Maltsev / Mayya Gurbanberdieva presented the most rated routine in both the mixed events, earning respectively 90.2902 for the technical and 93.5333 for the free. Yumi Adachi / Atsushi Abe of Japan came second in the mixed duet technical (88.0718), while they came third in the free (89.8333).

Both Russia and Japan got a total of five gold medals this weekend in Tokyo.
