Janet Hu, Luke Kaliszak Close Out NCSA Night Three with 50 Fly Wins
ORLANDO, Florida, March 20. THE 50 butterfly capped off the individual events on the third night of finals at the NCSA Junior National Championships.
Women’s 50 butterfly:
Nations Capital’s Janet Hu staked her claim on the sprint race early, pushing her underwaters dangerously close to the 15 meter mark off each wall. It was head down to the finish for all of the ladies, but Hu touched the wall first with a 23.40 for the win. Elizabeth Nelson was second with a 23.80 and Mary Schneider claimed third with a 24.21. Hu adds this win to her 200 butterfly title and national age group record on the second night of the meet.
Hu, who has the 100 butterfly tomorrow, says she is, “…just hoping for a best time.”
Men’s 50 Butterfly:
Baylor’s Luke Kaliszak claimed the last title available in the individual events of the night with his 50 butterfly win. Kaliszak went a 21.30 in finals, shaving over a tenth off from his prelim time. Michael Andrew, who has yet to claim an individual title at the meet, took second with a 21.49. Gunnar Bentz, minutes after winning the men’s 400 IM title, raced to third in the sprint butterfly with a 21.55.
