Janet Hu Downs Elaine Breeden’s NAG in 200 Butterfly
ORLANDO, Florida, March 19. WITH barely anytime to breathe, another National Age Group record falls at the NCSA Junior National Championships in the women’s 17-18 200 butterfly. Nation’s Capital’s Janet Hu posted a 1:52.92 for the win, just hundredths under the previous NAG set by Elaine Breeden in 2007 (1:52.99).
Although Hu went into the final at the top seed with a 1:55.74 from prelims, she wasn’t the one people were looking to for a new NAG. It was Cassidy Bayer, who was chasing her own girls 13-14 NAG, set at a 1:56.01 at the Tom Dolan Invitational in December. Bayer finished the event second with a 1:56.08, just a few hundredths off her best time and NAG.
Dynamo’s Kylie Stewart took third in the event with a 1:56.30, after a win in the 200 backstroke earlier in the night in which she broke the 1:50 barrier. Stewart dropped over six seconds from her seed time this morning.
