James Madison Picks Up First Class of 2025 Verbal from Upper Main Line YMCA’s Grace Bousum
NEW COMMIT: James Madison University has scored their first early verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from freestyler and butterflyer Grace Bousum of Chester Springs, Penn.
Bousum swims year-round with Upper Main Line YMCA and capped off her summer long course season with three best times at YMCA LCM Nationals where her highest finish was an 11th-place showing in the 50m fly. Last winter, she notched four lifetime bests at YMCA SCY Nationals.
A current junior at Downington East High School, Bousum is a four-time PIAA District 1 Championship finalist. She placed 12th in the 200 free at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championships as a sophomore while taking 14th in the event as a freshman.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at James Madison University! Thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates for all the support. Can’t wait to be a Duke!”
Her best times include:
- 100 free – 51.41
- 200 free – 1:51.79
- 500 free – 5:02.16
- 50 fly – 26.23
- 100 fly – 56.87
Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Dukes as a member of the class of 2025, Bousum will add valuable free and fly depth to their lineup. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 free and 200 free at the 2019 CAA Championships where James Madison secured their second-straight team title.
