James Guy Nominated For Athletes’ Athlete Of The Month Following Return To 200 Free Podium
Two-time Olympic relay champion James Guy has been nominated for the British Elite Athletes Association’s Athletes’ Athlete of the month for December.
The 28-year-old – who has won five medals across two Games – was nominated following the European Short-Course Championships in December where he won silver in the 200 free behind British teammate Matt Richards.
It was the first time Guy had made a 200 free podium since May 2016 when he won bronze at the European Championships, prompting emotion from the Briton.
He said:
“I’ve not had an individual final & to get an individual podium is amazing. I’ve waited for a long time for it to happen.“The last time I did a 200m free and got a medal was 2016, so seven years is a long time, so never give in!“Things happen in life but don’t give up. I’m 28 and still PB’ing and I’m happy with what I’m doing so bring on next year.”
First up, James Guy achieved a personal feat by returning to the 200m freestyle podium for the first time in seven years at the European Short Course Championships 🏊♂️
