Jacob Pebley Cruises to 200 Back Top Spot

Cal’s Jacob Pebley has been as fast as 1:56.38 this season, the world’s tenth best time entering prelims in Omaha. This morning he swam an incredibly smooth 1:56.29 to improve that time and tie his personal best.
Top seed Tyler Clary revived his Olympic dream with a 1:56.85 to take the second spot into semifinals.
Ryan Murphy entered with the fourth best time in the world this year of 1:54.94. The short course American record was nearly a second behind his Cal teammate in an easy 1:57.35.
Seventeen year old Michael Taylor of Dynamo earned another semifinal swim with his 1:57.92. Robert Owen (1:58.01) took fifth just ahead of Sean Lehane (1:58.04).
Hennessey Stuart clocked a 1:58.32 for the seventh spot spot. Austin Katz of Sarasota YMCA returns eighth in 1:59.05.
Rio bound Jay Litherland stopped the clock in 1:59.30 for ninth.
Joey Reilman of Tennessee touched in 1:59.55. Justin Ress (1:59.60), Carter Griffin (1:59.74), and Patrick Mulcare (1:59.86) finished 11th through 13th.
After a tough third place finish in the 100 backstroke, Matt Grevers just slipped into semifinals with a 2:00.03.
With a 2:00.04 Drew Cosgarea held the top time entering the circle seeded heats and that swim held up for 15th. Jake Taylor completes the semifinals in a 2:00.31.
