Jackson Mussler Will Stay in the Bluegrass State; Sends Verbal to Kentucky for 2021
NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has picked up an in-state verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Jackson Mussler of Louisville, Ky.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Kentucky. I’d like to thank my coaches, family, and friends who have supported me throughout the process. I can’t wait to be a part of BBN.”
Primarily a butterflyer and backstroker, Mussler does his club swimming with Lakeside Swim Team and owns two U.S. Open standards. He most recently earned bronze in both the 200 fly and 200 back at the Southern Premier Invitational after earning four best times at Juniors East in December. Last summer, he had three top-15 finishes at Greensboro Sectionals before going on to place 22nd in the 200m back at Junior Nationals.
His best times include:
- 100 fly – 49.33
- 200 fly – 1:47.92
- 100 back – 50.06
- 200 back – 1:46.17
Also competing for Saint Xavier High School, Mussler is a five-time Kentucky State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished third in the 100 fly and fourth in the 100 back as a junior while helping his team to their 31st-straight state title. He also took sixth and eighth, respectively, in those two events during his sophomore season.
The Wildcats finished seventh overall in the team standings at the 2020 SEC Championships under head coach Lars Jorgensen. They also qualified five swimmers for the NCAA Championships – their most in a decade.
