ISHOF Coaches Clinic: Bob Bowman On Underwater and Kick Training (Video)
In conjunction with the recent induction ceremony for the Class of 2023 into the International Swimming Hall of Fame, the first ISHOF Coaches Clinic was held in Fort Lauderdale. The clinic featured some of the premier minds in the sport providing informative presentations to coaches at the high school, college and club levels. One of the coaches who presented was Bob Bowman, who was also in South Florida for his Hall of Fame enshrinement.
During one of his presentations, Bowman discussed the importance of underwater and kick training and designing workouts that are the proper fit for the athletes involved. Here is a four-minute snippet from one of Bowman’s presentations that discusses underwater and kick training.
Bowman, of course, was the coach to 28-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps and is now the head man at Arizona State University. Beyond his college squad, Bowman oversees one of the elite pro groups in the world, a gathering of athletes that includes Leon Marchand, Regan Smith and Chase Kalisz, among others. Last summer, Marchand broke Phelps’ longstanding world record in the 400 individual medley, clocking 4:02.50 to capture the gold medal at the World Championships in Fukuoka.
