Irish International Nathan Wiffen Commits to Cal
Irish international Nathan Wiffen has committed to the University of California, he announced on social media Tuesday.
Nathan is the twin brother of Daniel Wiffen, the gold medalist at the Paris Olympics in the men’s 800 free and bronze medalist in the 1,500 free. The brothers turned 23 last July.
Wiffen has previously trained at Loughborough University. He’s listed as in the Cal class of 2026.

Born in Leeds, England, and raised in County Down, Northern Ireland, the brothers have represented Ireland internationally. Nathan finished eighth in the 800 free at the 2024 European Championships and fourth in the 1,500 free. He was eighth in the 800 free (a final in which his brother set the world record) and eighth in the 1,500 free at the 2023 European Short Course Championships.
