Iowa State Cyclones Round Up 2022 Verbal Pledge From Backstroker Madi Dohrn
NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Madi Dohrn of Schaumburg, Ill. has given Iowa State University their first verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond.
She told Swimming World:
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study engineering at Iowa State! After touring and meeting with coaches, swimmers, advisors, and seeing all that ISU had to offer I knew it was the place for me. Thank you to all the coaches and administrators that worked to coordinate protocols so we could have most of a HS season during COVID. I especially want to thank my SHS and Reach coaches for their teaching and support, and my teammates for their encouragement and keeping practices fun and competitive. I want to thank my family for absolutely everything! Go Cyclones!!”
A talented backstroker, Dohrn does her club swimming with Reach Aquatics and most recently earned three best times at the NASA Summer Invite last month after placing 12th in the 200m back at the TYR 18&U Spring Cup in Des Moines. She also earned bronze in the 200 back at the Illinois Winter Meet in March.
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 26.93
- 100 back – 55.57
- 200 back – 1:59.57
- 100 free – 52.97
A rising senior at Schaumburg High School, Dohrn won two events and collected two silvers at IHSA Elkhorn Sectionals as a junior. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American raced to seventh in the 100 back at the Illinois State Championships during her rookie campaign.
Dohrn is a big get for the Cyclones, as she would’ve been their fastest 200 backstroker and third fastest 100 backstroker last season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 back and 200 back at the 2021 Big 12 Championships.
Her best 200 back time is just 0.19 off the Iowa State freshman record.
