Iowa 100 Back Champ Nick Chase Announces Verbal to Notre Dame

NEW COMMIT: Waukee, Iowa native Nick Chase has declared his verbal intention to swim for Notre Dame as a member of the class of 2023.
Chase does his club swimming with Des Moines Swimming Federation and has met the Summer Juniors standard in the 100 back. He capped off a successful long course season with a trio of top-6 finishes at the Iowa LCM Championships and also raced at Junior Nationals. He had a trio of lifetime bests at the Iowa SCY meet in February and was a three-time Pleasant Prairie Speedo Sectional finalist.
Chase is the 100 back record-holder and team captain for Dowling High School and is a six-time IHSAA State Championship finalist. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 back at State during his junior season and earned the bronze in the 200 free.
He told Swimming World:
“I chose Notre Dame because of the amazing academic and athletic opportunities. It has always been a dream school for me, Go Irish!”
His best times include:
- 100 back – 49.48
- 200 back – 1:53.06
- 50 free – 21.58
- 100 free – 47.45
- 200 free – 1:41.06
When Chase suits up for the Fighting Irish at the start of the 2019-20 season, he’ll join a talented backstroke training group that includes Jack Montesi, Brendan Santana and Will Cumberland. Under head coach Mike Litzinger, Notre Dame finished fourth at last season’s ACC Championships.
