Iowa State Champion Jacob Pins Selects Arizona State

NEW COMMIT: After originally verbally committing to the University of Kentucky, distance freestyler Jacob Pins has recently switched his pledge and will attend Arizona State University in Fall 2024.

He will join Tolu Young and Bryce Rohr as a member of the Sun Devils’ Class of 2028.

He told Swimming World:

“After an exciting process, I’ve decided to commit to Arizona State University to continue my academic and athletic careers. Thanks to everyone for all of the amazing opportunities. I’m looking forward to my future in AZ! Forks up”
A native of West Des Moines, Iowa, Pins does his club swimming with Des Moines Swimming Federation and last competed at Junior Nationals where he placed sixth in the 1500m free and 12th in the 800m free. The U.S. Open qualifier finished fourth in the mile at Juniors West last December, also taking first in the 500/1000/1650 at the IASI State Championships.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:37.52
  • 500 free – 4:25.34
  • 1000 free – 9:08.50
  • 1650 free – 15:05.72

Currently a senior at Valley High School, Pins won the 200 free and 500 free at the 2023 Iowa State Championships. He placed fifth and first, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.

The Sun Devils are coming off an historic season where they won their first Pac-12 title in program history and were runners-up at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
