Iowa Picks Up Verbal From North Carolina 3A State Champion Grace Reeder
NEW COMMIT: Grace Reeder will make the move from Asheville, N.C. to Iowa City to join the Hawkeyes in the fall of 2019.
Reeder does her club swimming with the YMCA of Western North Carolina and has achieved the Winter Juniors standard in the 400 IM. She finaled in the 400m IM at YMCA LCM Nationals over the summer and competed at the SCY version of the meet in April. She also race four events at Juniors East back in December.
Representing TC Roberson High School, Reeder was crowned the NCHSAA 3A State 200 IM champion as a junior in addition to placing fifth in the 100 free. She finaled in both of those events at the 4A State meet during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so excited to announce my commitment to continue my academics and athletics at the University of Iowa. They have an awesome team atmosphere and so much to offer academically. Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for helping me reach this point. Go Hawks!!”
Her best times include:
- 200 IM – 2:04.51
- 400 IM – 4:19.88
- 100 back – 57.68
- 200 back – 2:02.73
Reeder will make an immediate impact when she arrives at Iowa for the 2019-20 season. Her best 400 IM time would’ve ranked at the top of the Hawkeyes’ lineup last season and she currently sits just outside of scoring range in the event at the 2018 Big Ten Championships.
