Iowa Hawkeyes Receive Verbal Commitment From Will Myhre
NEW COMMIT: The University of Iowa has gained a verbal commitment from St. Charles, Ill. native Will Myhre. Myhre, one of the top breaststrokers in the graduating class of 2019, will join the Hawkeyes as a member of the class of 2023.
He does his club swimming with St. Charles Aquatics under head coach Tim Lewarchick and has achieved a U.S. Open cut in the 100 breast. He capped off a strong long course season with a 12th-place showing in the 100m breast (1:03.42) at Junior Nationals. He was the bronze medalist in the 100 breast (54.17) at Juniors West last December and achieved six lifetime bests at NCSA Junior Nationals in March.
Also representing Saint Charles North High School, Myhre is a five-time IHSA State finalist. As a junior, the two-time NISCA All-American was the runner-up in both the 100 breast (54.45) and 200 IM (1:50.16). During his sophomore campaign, he placed second in the 100 breast (55.13) and third in the 200 IM (1:51.24) after earning the silver in the 100 (55.95) as a freshman.
He told Swimming World:
“I chose Iowa because of the dedicated coaching staff and hardworking passionate team. Go Hawks!”
His best times include:
- 100 breast – 54.13
- 200 breast – 1:59.73
- 50 breast – 24.63
- 200 IM – 1:50.07
- 50 free – 20.65
- 100 free – 45.81
Myhre will make a huge splash when he suits up for Iowa at the start of the 2019-20 season. His best 100 breast time would’ve placed in the B-final at the 2018 Big Ten Championships while his 200 time was just outside scoring range. When he arrives on campus, he’ll have two seasons to train with top returning breaststroker Daniel Swanepoel.
