Iowa 50/100 Free State Champion Alex Stone Will Become a Hoosier With 2022 Verbal to Indiana
NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has scored their fourth verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Alex Stone of Bettendorf, Iowa.
He will join Harry Herrera, Alejandro Kincaid and Drew Reiter as a member of the Hoosiers’ Class of 2026.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career and the University of Indiana-Bloomington. Go Hoosiers!”
A talented sprinter, Stone does his club swimming with Lane 4 Aquatics and most recently collected three gold medals at Iowa Seniors in February after a strong show at the 18&U Winter Championships. In Summer 2019, he posted a trio of top-5 finishes at Iowa LCM Seniors before going on to race three events at Des Moines Futures.
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.44
- 100 free – 45.17
- 200 free – 1:37.61
- 100 fly – 50.64
- 200 IM – 1:52.96
Currently a junior at Bettendorf High School, Stone is a six-time individual Iowa State Championship finalist. He won the 50/100 free in 2021 while taking fifth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 100 fly during his sophomore season.
Under head coach Ray Looze, the Hoosiers finished second overall in the team standings at the 2021 Big Ten Championships.
The Hoosiers are bringing in a large and talented Class of 2025 that includes Joseph Radde, Finn Brooks, Nichita Bortnicov, Aidan Reagan, Rafael Miroslaw, Jackson Carlile, Luke Barr, Sean Swift, Josh Matheny, Lucas Piunti, and Mason Carlton in Bloomington in the fall of 2021.
