Indiana’s Michael Hixon Among Big 10 Weekly Award Winners

The Big 10 Swimming and Diving Conference have released their sixth week of accolades and the awards are split highlight a variety of schools. Michigan, Nebraska, and Wisconsin highlight the women’s awards, while Indiana, Michigan, and Penn State top the men’s
Swimmer of the Week
Siobhan Haughey, Michigan
So. – Hong Kong – St. Paul’s Secondary School
- Collected four first-place finishes against No. 6 Virginia, including a pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.47)
- Won the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.98), the 100-yard freestyle (49.28), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.47) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.35), all of which were NCAA provisional qualifying times
- Contributed to a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:17.68) and a pair of second-place marks in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.92) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:39.16)
- Earns her first career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award

Diver of the Week
Anna Filipcic, Nebraska
Sr. – Omaha, Neb. – Omaha Burke High School
- Swept the diving events with a score of 330.52 on the one-meter and 372.30 in the three-meter event in Nebraska’s dual meet against Kansas
- Set a Devaney Natatorium record with a six-dive total of 330.52 on the one-meter platform
- The two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree recorded NCAA Zone qualifying scores in both events
- Earns her eighth career Diver of the Week honor

Freshman of the Week
Beata Nelson, Wisconsin
Madison, Wis. – Verona Area
- Earned six top-five finishes in Wisconsin’s dual meet at Georgia
- Collected a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.62) and a fourth-place result in the 100-yard backstroke (54.86)
- Recorded NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events
- Contributed to second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.02) and a trio of third-place marks in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.01), the 400-yard medley relay (3:42.72) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:24.58)
- Earns her second Freshman of the Week award
- Last Wisconsin Freshman of the Week: Beata Nelson (Oct. 26, 2016)
Swimmer of the Week
Shane Ryan, Penn State
Sr. – Havertown, Pa. – Haverford
- Collected six top-five finishes in Penn State’s triple dual meet against Virginia and Michigan, including the fastest 100-yard freestyle time in the country this season (43.09)
- Earned first-place finishes and NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 50-yard freestyle (20.09), the 100-yard freestyle (43.09) and the 100-yard backstroke (47.19)
- Contributed to a pair of second- place marks in the 400-yard medley relay (3:15.23) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (2:59.24)
- Earns his fifth career Swimmer of the Week honor

Co-Diver of the Week

Jr. – Amherst, Mass. – Amherst Regional
- Collected a pair of first-place finishes in the one-meter (401.70) and three-meter (464.03) diving events in Indiana’s dual meet against Michigan State
- Recorded NCAA Zone qualifying marks in both events
- Earns his fifth Diver of the Week award

Co-Diver of the Week
Steele Johnson, Purdue
So. – Carmel, Ind. – Laurel Springs
- Swept the diving events in Purdue’s triple dual meet at Iowa, scoring 431.25 in the one-meter event and 417.75 in the three-meter event
- Victorious by 50 points on the one-meter platform and by 69 points on three-meter platform
- Recorded NCAA Zone qualifying marks in both events
- Earns his ninth Diver of the Week award
- Last Purdue Diver of the Week: Steele Johnson (Nov. 2, 2016)
Freshman of the Week
Jacob Montague, Michigan
Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. – Grosse Pointe South
- Earned a pair of victories in Michigan’s dual meet against Penn State, including NCAA provisional qualifying times in both of his individual events
- Touched the wall first in the 100-yard (54.59) and the 200-yard breaststroke (1:58.70)
- Contributed to first- and second-place marks in the 400-yard medley relay (3:14.97) and 200-yard medley relay (1:29.16), respectively
- Earns his second career Freshman of the Week honor
