Lauryn Parrish has given her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Kansas.
The future Jayhawk swims for Fishers Area Swimming Tigers in Fishers, Indiana. Parrish’s best events in short course yards are:
200 Freestyle 1:47.64
200 Backstroke 2:00.15
500 Freestyle 4:54.81
100 Freestyle 50.49
100 Backstroke 56.89
While Carmel was making history at the 2016 IHSAA Girls Championships, Parrish was representing Fishers High School. She finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:49.49) and sixth in the 100 (51.09).
At the 2016 Big 12 Championships, Parrish would have finished third in the 200 freestyle with her lifetime best time. The Jayhawks had two in the A final and two in the B final in that event last year. The current high school senior should have great 800 freestyle relay potential. Last year Kansas finished second place in that relay, 16 seconds behind the winning Texas Longhorns.
While a back to back 200 backstroke-100 freestyle double may be tough in the final day of Big 12s, Parrish would have finished eighth and fourth in the two events respectively last season. She also could have notched seventh place points in the 500. No matter which of her best events the Kansas coaching staff puts her in, Parrish is poised to make an impact on the second place Big 12 team.
