Indiana State Championship Finalist Andrew Alders Sends In-State Verbal to Boilermakers
NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Andrew Alders of Chesterton, Ind. has pledged his in-state verbal commitment to Purdue University and will suit up for the Boilermakers in the fall of 2020.
A versatile swimmer, Alders swims year-round with Duneland Swim Club and most recently recorded a pair of best times at Junior Nationals this past summer after finishing eighth in both IMs at Indiana LCM Seniors. Last winter, he registered five lifetime bests at Indiana SCY Seniors where he earned silver in the 200 IM and bronze in the 500 free.
Also competing for Chesterton High School, the NISCA All-American is a four-time Indiana State Championship finalist. Alders finished third in the 200 free and sixth in the 100 fly as a junior after placing sixth and ninth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
He told Swimming World:
“I am happy to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Purdue University and further my education in the fall of 2020. The coaching staff has been incredible throughout the process and I look forward to swimming for them with my new teammates.”
His best times include:
- 100 fly – 49.00
- 50 free – 21.36
- 100 free – 45.93
- 200 free – 1:39.11
- 200 IM – 1:49.78
- 400 IM – 3:54.93
Alders’ versatility will be extremely beneficial for Purdue when he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024 and he could find himself in a number of different events during his college career. He will also join Andrew Whitty, Andrew Swenson, Kevin O’Dare, Coleman Modglin, Griffin Seaver and Ethan Shaw next fall in West Lafayette.
