Indiana Hoosiers Score 2021 Verbal from U.S. National Junior Teamer Mariah Denigan
NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has officially entered the class of 2025 recruiting game: Mariah Denigan, one of the top recruits in her class, has pledged her verbal to the Hoosiers beginning in the 2021-22 season.
Denigan is a member of the 2019-20 U.S. National Junior Team in the 800m free, 1500m free, 400m IM, and open water. At the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru, she earned silver in the 800m free, took fourth in both the 400m free and 1500m free, and placed fifth in the 400m IM.
The Walton, Ky. native has already achieved the Olympic Trials cut in the 400m free and owns six additional U.S. Open standards. She earned three gold medals at Indianapolis Sectionals in March and placed sixth in the 800m free and seventh in the 1500m free at 2019 Phillips 66 Nationals.
In SCY, her best times include:
- 200 free – 1:48.66
- 500 free – 4:44.25
- 1000 free – 9:46.30
- 1650 free – 16:26.45
- 200 IM – 2:01.63
- 400 IM – 4:12.09
In LCM, her best times include:
- 200m free – 2:04.13
- 400m free – 4:12.23
- 800m free – 8:28.15
- 1500m free – 16:19.29
- 200m IM – 2:1.90
- 400m IM – 4:40.62
When she arrives in Bloomington in the fall of 2021, she’ll add her talents to a distance group led by Maggie Wallace, Christin Rockway, and Josie Grote. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 400 IM and 500 free as well as placed top-14 in the mile at the 2019 Big Ten Championships where Indiana won their sixth conference title in program history. Still with just under two years of club swimming to go, Denigan will look to carry her recent long course success heading into this upcoming short course season.
