Indiana Hoosiers Collect 2022 Verbal Commitment from Cali Sprinter Cat Watrous
NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has picked up a new verbal commitment for their growing Class of 2026 from Junior National qualifier Cat Watrous of Larkspur, Calif.
She will join the Hoosiers along with Chiok Sze Yeo, Kristina Paegle, Avery Spade, Gracie Olsen and Mya DeWitt at the start of the 2022-23 season.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academics and athletics at Indiana University. I am so grateful for all of my coaches, family, and friends that have supported me along the way. Go Hoosiers!!!”
Watrous, who does her club swimming with North Bay Aquatics, placed 16th in the 100 free at Carlsbad Sectionals in February after racing the 50/100 free combo at Juniors West last December. She had a great showing at Mount Hood Futures in Summer 2019, earning 100% best times and placing 11th in the 100m free and 18th in the 50m free.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.74
- 100 free – 51.21
- 200 free – 1:54.63
- 100 fly – 57.65
Currently a junior at Redwood High School, Watrous raced the 50 free and 100 free at the CIF State Championships during her freshman season. At the CIF North Coast Sectional Meet in 2019, she sprinted to fourth in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free.
When she arrives on campus, Watrous will add her talents to a training group that’ll include Anna Peplowski, Catherine Minic, Ashley Turak, and Carla Gildersleeve. Under head coach Ray Looze, the Hoosiers finished third overall in the team standings at the 2020 Big Ten Championships.
