Indian River Sets 2 NJCAA Records on Night 1
BUFFALO – Indian River State College is well on its way to winning a 41st men’s title and 33rd women’s title at the NJCAA Championships.
The IRSC women jumped out to an early lead with 128 points against Monroe’s 112. The men are ahead with 215 points against Monroe’s 154 points.
Indian River kicked off the night with Taylor Lovemore (55.37), Christina Loh (1:02.00), Barbara Caraballo (55.20) and Leah Sims (55.79) winning the women’s 400-yard medley relay in 3:45.36.
Monroe took a distant second in 4:02.00 with Iowa Lake placing second in 4:03.24.
Indian River’s Stefan Stojmenovic (47.55), Craig Emslie (53.26), Shota Nakano (47.46) and Adam Wise (43.76) posted an NJCAA record in the men’s 400-yard medley relay with a 3:12.03.
That swim eclipsed Indian River’s 2009 mark of 3:13.18.
Iowa Lakes placed second in 3:26.57 with Darton finishing third in 3:28.13.
IRSC went 1-2-3 in men’s three-meter diving with Zach Duval (532.10), David Zarb (481.20) and Robert Morgan (468.15) sweeping the podium.
IRSC’s Hannah Lynch (1:57.03), Rebecca Halfast (1:52.29), Olivia Jacobi (1:55.49) and Sarah Neely (1:56.08) won the women’s 800-yard free relay in 7:40.89.
Monroe took second in 7:55.66 with South Georgia State placing third in 8:04.87.
IRSC’s men took down another NJCAA record as Stefan Stojmenovic (1:38.49), Craig Emslie (1:37.28), Quinn Poti (1:38.07) and Adam Wise (1:38.06) clocked a 6:31.90.
That swim blasted the 2008 mark of 6:34.24 set by Indian River.
Monroe touched second in 7:01.29 with Iowa Lakes placing third in 7:03.64.
